About a year ago Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. acquired e-commerce start-up Jet.com for $3.3 billion. Since the deal, Wal-Mart’s U.S. e-commerce sales have soared, climbing 63% in its most recent quarter. The stock has also gained 10% over the last year. A major contributor to this increase is that Wal-Mart’s online inventory has grown from 10 million items to over 67 million today. In efforts to try and catch up to the e-commerce giant, Amazon, Wal-Mart is now offering free two-day delivery orders over $35. The move puts Wal-Mart on par with Amazon and gives shoppers who don’t want to pay the $99 annual fee for Amazon Prime another option for free, fast delivery.
